Brooklyn Cyclones Game – A Cyclone of Fun

07.19.17

Summer means one thing: Baseball Season! And there’s no better place to catch a game than MCU Park in the heart of Coney Island. The popular ball field is home to Brooklyn’s own – The Cyclones! The Class A professional ball team plays many games here throughout the season. Located right in the heart of all the Coney action – and just a few steps from the subway and the ocean, the ballfield is easy to get to, and all the games have quite an amazing ocean view too. The Cyclones offer many family friendly promotions – from toy giveaways, Sunday Funday with popular friends (look for the upcoming Paw Patrol and Marvel Superhero day!), player autographs and selfies,  after game fireworks and an opportunity for kids to run the bases, Baseball has never been more fun.

Behind the Bases

The Brooklyn Cyclones are a Minor League affiliate team to the New York Mets. The Cyclones play at the stunning MCU Park stadium located in Coney Island, Brooklyn -. just a few hundred feet from the beach, subway reach and the original Nathan’s Famous Hot Dogs. The season starts in mid-June and goes until the end of August/early September. Current & Former members of the Mets including Michael Conforto, Wilmer Flores, Ike Davis, Dillon Gee and Daniel Murphy played for the Cyclones.

A Sport-tacular View

The stadium is situated between the Coney Island amusement parks and the beach, and within reach to many family activities. The stadium is angled to the ocean – and from certain seats you can actually see the sand and the beachfront attractions.  Tickets start at just $9 and you can sit in the front row for only $17 per seat.

  1. Family Fun at the Stadium

We love coming to cyclones game because of all the family fun activities. A typical season is packed with giveaways, promotions, fireworks and more (and are all included free in the price of admission!). The day we visited this super inflatable chair was waiting for us at the check-in door.  How could we resist? We also found a pitching game set up upstairs, and there was a superhero dress up contest!

Another favorite favorite is the popular Hot Dog Race that is held at every game at the park, which is sponsored by Nathan’s Famous. (The first Nathan’s store is located two blocks away from the ballpark.) The three hot dogs currently racing are Ketchup, Mustard, and Relish. For many years Relish has become the loveable loser because he either wins very few races or none at all during the season.

Playing catch on the field

Sunday Funday

Certain Sundays children (and their families) are able to enter the field to run the bases. The Sunday we visited included a catching session right on the field. Such a unique experience, and a memory we will not forget! Be sure to bring a marker and a ball to grab autographs from the players – they often are on the baselines for meet and greets and to sign autographs immediately after.

Making Friends

PeeWee, the team’s mascot, will stop for autographs too!

Until next time MCU Park!

Tips for your visit:

  • We love that the Cyclones offer fun themed games. Be sure to check the schedule for fun events including the popular Touch-a-Truck, Bark in the Park (where dogs are invited to attend!), and Seinfeld Nights, celebrating everyone’s favorite 90s sitcom. Little Sluggers will especially love Paw Patrol, Nickelodeon and Marvel Superhero themed events.
  • The stadium is easily accessible and located very close to the Coney Island subway train stop.
  • Aside from the must-have Nathan’s hot dog, MCU Park offers many varied food options – including burgers, tacos and sandwiches – there is something here for any taste palette (or picky eater!).
  • The stadium offers amazing views of Coney Island – however it does become quite hot in the warm summer sun. Sunscreen is essential.
  • Bring you own ball and sharpie for autographs from the players! (The gift shop sells them too if you forget like we did!)
  • Make it a double header! Come for the day and enjoy the beach, amusement parks and more… Read our Coney Island Guide HERE.
